The Irricana & District Agricultural Society is a non-profit organization run by a group of dedicated volunteers serving Irricana and surrounding district since 1984. The Society formed a partnership by way of an agreement with the Town of Irricana since the building’s completion to operate and manage the Irricana Recreational Complex.
After many years of the initial successful partnership, The Irricana & District Agricultural Society along with the Town of Irricana are pleased to announce an expanded partnership within the community.
Along with operating the Complex, the Society also operates the Bev MacDonald Riding Arena in Founders Park and the new initiative includes an agreement for managing and operating the Founders Park Campground and the ball diamonds. Further, future plans are to move the Bev MacDonald Riding Arena from the park to a 25 acre plot of land located directly north of the campground.
In addition to constructing a larger outdoor arena, the Society also has plans to include a possible campground expansion to the north, raised community gardens for seniors, playground and an Agriplex to host events year-round. It is anticipated to have the outdoor arena moved for 2023 and are looking at a 5–10-year projection for other amenities.
The Society strives to encourage and support improvement in agriculture and improve the quality of life for all those living in our community and surrounding area, by developing programs, services and facilities. We support local Agricultural, Community and Sporting events and wish to encourage a sense of pride by bringing the community together and creating a legacy within the district.
This newly expanded partnership has been in the works for the past 4 years. We would like to see Founders Park amenities used to their full capacity and are willing to support the community by offering our resources to enhance facilities that create places and spaces that serve to bring people together.
The project will take time, money, and a lot of volunteer hours. The Irricana & District Agricultural Society is always looking to welcome new members as it moves forward in enhancing community facilities and programs. In the short term, we will be looking for volunteers to help with minor ball teams and setting up slo-pitch drop in nights and other tournaments utilizing the ball diamonds this summer in Founders Park.
